3 Easy Tips to Making Your New Home Your Own

“Your Home should tell the story of who you are, and be a collection of what you LOVE.” ⁣- Nate Berkus⁣

The decor you choose to fill your home should be high quality and convenient to use, but more importantly, it should reflect your personal style. ⁣Last year we had a water leak in our kitchen and ended up needing to gut it and remodel. While I was pissed about the leak I was ELATED to get to make this kitchen and the whole house my own after being here for almost 4 years. From the start when we moved in I was so excited to have my very own Mid Century Ranch home to decorate. But with two kids and a quick move it didn't happen quite as I wanted, and we settled on kid friendly finds. I slowly collected things over the years from various estate sales, antique shops and curbside finds. After the kitchen remodel was over I was able to start from the ground up and really make an effort to curate the space.

When looking at furniture and decor, make sure it is something that you will love and get great use out of for many years to come. Here are some tips to carry with you as you choose your personal style.

Pay attention to construction quality.

You want the pieces you choose to be durable. Make sure the price is reflecting how long it is going to last.⁣if you are buying cheap made don't expect it to stand the test of time. Do your research on what you're looking to buy, even high end pieces can be unforgiving on daily use.

Pick a vibe and stick to it.

Make sure you are coordinating what you choose with the other pieces in the room so that they go together well.⁣I definitely made sure to have a vision for the remodel that would carry throughout my whole home. Color is a huge coordinating factor for cohesiveness. I LOVE deep rich colors. I curated a vision board for what I wanted and narrowed it down to a clear idea using pinterest. Will it be timeless or is it just a trend?

Is the piece a shape or style that may only be in trend for a year or two? Or is it something that will stand the test of time?⁣For me, MY style and aesthetic is trending right now. Mid Century Modern pieces are very trendy. This is why I love finding things "in the wild" at estate sales. I'd say my home is 50/50 second hand pieces and new pieces.

Some of my favorites places to find furniture and decor pieces are Wayfair, Joybird, West Elm, and OF COURSE, Target!

Where is your favorite place to shop for furniture and decor?⁣I'm going to hit up every estate sale and antique shop I know. There are a few on the North Fork I can't wait to check out. Ok and Target...
